Imagine having to say no to some really cool stuff because you believe in making your own project come to life. It seems that’s what Dev Patel did for ‘Monkey Man.’
As per ComicBookMovie.com, Dev had to give up on other big projects that came his way. He told Access Hollywood that he stuck with ‘Monkey Man’ because he believed in it:
“I’ve been bruised, battered, and emotionally torn up by it, and I’ve had to say goodbye to some of the most amazing opportunities as an actor to kind of stick with this.”
You might remember Patel from ‘Lion’ and ‘Slumdog Millionaire.’ This time, he’s not only acting in ‘Monkey Man’ — he is also directing it and helping write it.
‘Monkey Man’ Will Hit Theaters This Week
‘Monkey Man’ is a story about a young man who’s out to set things right after some ‘corrupt leaders’ hurt his family and others. He’s got to fight a lot of battles, both inside and out, to do this. And… He fights in a gorilla mask in underground fight clubs. The film’s original synopsis says it’s inspired by the legend of Hanuman.
The movie had a big moment when it premiered at the South by Southwest festival on March 11, 2024. The audience loved it so much that they gave the film a 2-minute standing ovation at the end.
Critics are already saying great things about ‘Monkey Man.’ It currently has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘Monkey Man’ was first going to be shown on Netflix, but Jordan Peele thought it was so good that it should be in theaters for everyone to see. So, now Universal Pictures is going to bring it to us all on April 5, 2024.
