Shakira recently spoke to Allure and claimed that ‘Barbie’ emasculates men.
Shakira revealed that she watched ‘Barbie’ with her sons, and they didn’t like it much. She said she’s all for women doing great things but doesn’t think it should make men feel bad about themselves.
“My sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent. I’m raising two boys. I want ’em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide. I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity.”
She also believes that men and women have their unique roles in society and that they should help each other out:
“I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well. We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost…. Why not share the load with people who deserve to carry it, who have a duty to carry it as well?”
‘Barbie 2’ May Be On The Way
It’s not just her who has something to say about ‘Barbie.’ Other celebs also criticized the movie for similar reasons. Some say the movie is against men, while others just didn’t enjoy its message. Despite this, so many fans loved the movie for celebrating women and being inclusive.
There’s talk about making a ‘Barbie 2’ because the first movie did so well. Gerwig is thinking about it, but she hasn’t decided yet.
‘Barbie’ is now available to watch at home or stream online.
