Carrie-Anne Moss Says ‘Matrix’s Trinity Is In Star Wars With ‘The Acolyte’

Moss brings Trinity vibes into the ‘Star Wars’ universe.

‘The Acolyte’ trailer came out two weeks ago. It included Carrie-Anne Moss in action scenes that gave off ‘The Matrix’ vibes. Showrunner Leslye Headland recently confirmed that Moss’ Master Indara was a nod to her role in the 1999 film. She told Empire:

“She [Master Indara] is very much inspired by Trinity. I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight – somebody that would come in and you immediately would be like, ‘Oh, that’s the most powerful Jedi in the room.’ And that’s Trinity,”

The first trailer showed Indara being tracked and ambushed by a Sith assassin. She fought off her attacker with hand-to-hand combat skills instead of using a lightsaber.

The Actress Is Thrilled By Her Part

Moss opened up about her ‘Star Wars’ role by saying:

“I felt that a few times in my career with some of the big things I’ve done – ‘Memento,’ ‘The Matrix’ – where you’re talking to the filmmaker and you just go, ‘Oh, they totally get it.’”

She continued:

“Within my soul and my spirit, to get to play this Jedi Master and train for the fight was [an] amazing experience. A part of me forgot how much I love action. I love it. It’s hard. But I was just really thrilled that I could do it, and I wanted to do it well. ‘Gimme another take! Gimme another take!’”

‘The Acolyte’ will premiere on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, with its first two episodes. The other six episodes will come out weekly.

It’s Set Way Before The Main Story

Amandla Steinberg leads the sci-fi show as a former Padawan hunting down and killing Jedi. The official synopsis describes:

“A mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

‘The Acolyte’ takes place about 100 years before the Skywalker Saga. The cast includes the ‘Squid Game’ actor Lee Jung-jae along with Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Margarita Levieva, and Joonas Suotamo.
