3 Body Problem Will Get At Least Two More Seasons: Season 2 Is Almost Ready

The team behind the Netflix series plans to adapt all books in Liu Cixin’s trilogy.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss drew a large audience to ‘3 Body Problem’ since it started streaming on Netflix. There’s no official word yet on the continuation of the series, but Weiss mentioned in a Vulture interview that they want to make at least two more seasons:

“We’ve done a good amount of work on the second season. At this point, the shape of it is pretty detailed in terms of character journeys and who lives, who dies, who goes where, how things function. The rest of it … there are three books, so that seems to suggest three seasons. The third book is very long, which might suggest more than three seasons, but we’ve already used a fair amount of the third book. It’s hard to know until you get there.”

The Show Cost A Lot To Make

‘3 Body Problem’ quickly became one of the top-watched TV shows on Netflix and got 15.6 million viewers in its second week. But the first season was also one of the most expensive productions on Netflix. It cost around $160 million for eight episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, and Liam Cunningham led the cast including Benedict Wong, Eiza González, Alex Sharp, and Jess Hong.

The Plot And What’s Expected In Season 2

The sci-fi show premiered on March 21, 2024. It focused on a group of scientists dealing with an alien invasion that an astrophysicist from the 1960s caused.

Alexander Woo joined Weiss and Benioff in the writers’ room and as a producer. The team adapted Liu Cixin’s first book for Season 1. The new episodes will likely include a time jump from its events like the second book, ‘The Dark Forest.’
