Sydney Sweeney Had A Smart And Tricky Way To Make You Watch ‘Anyone But You,’ Glen Powell Reveals

It seems Sweeney and Powell turned their on-screen romance into a promotional tool for ‘Anyone But You.’

Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell might have a clever trick to share about ‘Anyone But You’ that got fans rushing to the theaters.

Powell told The New York Times how he and Sydney used their natural chemistry to get people interested in the movie. They knew fans sometimes wish movie characters who love each other on-screen would be together in real life, too. So, they played along with those feelings to make more people want to see the film:

“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”

Sydney is actually planning to marry someone else (he’s a producer on the movie), and Glen recently broke up with his long-time girlfriend, but it appears they knew how to use this for promotion.

Sweeney Did Her Best For The Film

Sydney was especially active in getting people excited about ‘Anyone But You.’ She was in on all the meetings and always chatting with the team at Sony to come up with fun ideas:

“I was on every call. I was in text group chats. I was probably keeping everybody over at Sony marketing and distribution awake at night because I couldn’t stop with ideas. I wanted to make sure that we were actively having a conversation with the audience as we were promoting this film because, at the end of the day, they’re the ones who created the entire narrative.”

‘Anyone But You’ made $219 million after its release. It tells the story of Bea and Ben. They have a really awkward first meeting but end up at the same wedding in Australia.

‘Anyone But You’ is now available to stream on Netflix. Watch the trailer below:
