Matthew Lillard Didn’t Get Any Calls For Stu Macher’s Return To ’Scream’ Franchise, Yet

Lillard is willing to return, but the decision is not up to him.

‘Scream’ fans may be hoping to see Stu Macher return, but Matthew Lillard says he hasn’t been asked to.

It looked like Stu died in the first ‘Scream’ movie as a TV fell on his face. But some believe he might have survived. At a recent event called Calgary Expo, Lillard explained that the decision isn’t his to make. He’s ready to return, but so far, no one called him:

“I stand at the ready to serve the franchise as it needs to be served. Here’s the good news — they don’t need me. I think it would be fun, but it’s not up to me.”

There Were Plans to Bring Stu Back

Stu could’ve been back in ‘Scream 3.’ The story would show that he was still alive and causing trouble in prison. Those plans were dropped because of the tragedy at Columbine High School. The filmmakers then decided to go in a different direction with the story.

Lillard couldn’t return as Stu, but he appeared in other roles — as Shaggy in the ‘Scooby-Doo’ movies and a part in ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s.’ He’s grateful for how Scream changed his life, though:

“If it wasn’t for this movie, we certainly probably wouldn’t be here. These moments are super important for feeding our kids and helping us get through these sort of ebbs and flows of life. So, like Skeet [Ulrich] said earlier, thank you so much for being here, for supporting us.”

‘Scream’ movies are now available for streaming on Max.
