Mike Mitchell recently shared updates on a potential follow-up to ‘Sky High.’
Disney once considered expanding the ‘Sky High’ franchise with both a sequel and a spin-off series. These projects were stuck in development and didn’t move forward.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Mitchell said he wants to bring back the original cast if a sequel happens. He added that Nicholas Braun (who played Zack Attack), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Royal Pain), and Kurt Russell (The Commander) would return for it:
“All the original kids would be back again, including Cousin Greg. That was one of his first films. Mary Elizabeth Winsted as Royal Pain, and Kurt Russell would have to be back as well. We figured all the kids are now grown up, and they’re all university teachers at a place called Save U. You just take all that fun and we bring it from the high school into the college years. It would be such a blast.”
Mitchell also compared ‘Sky High’s fun and action to his recent work on ‘Kung Fu Panda 4.’
“I was a huge fan of that film as well. I’ve never had so much fun working on something. That is also to say ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ was pretty great to work on as well. Both of them got to incorporate funny action too, which I think is really important. I love a film where you don’t just get to be funny, but you get to really have fun and also insane action. Those films are similar in that way.”
He Asks For Marvel’s Help
In another interview, Mitchell revealed he hopes to collaborate with Marvel Studios for the sequel. He believes Marvel’s help would be crucial for the sequel’s success:
“Help me out! Next time you have an interview with anyone at either Marvel or Disney, say, ‘Hey, Mike Mitchell’s ready.’ We’ve got a scriptment ready to go. I’ve got some designs. We’ve designed a few new costumes for them. I’m ready to make another ‘Sky High’ film.”
He also said the same thing about the sequel’s story: it would focus on the heroes and villains now as teachers:
“We thought maybe all the kids had grown up and are now teachers, so now they’re dealing with the crazy kids that they once were. Because all these terrific kid actors are all grown up now. And Kurt Russell’s in. He had a blast. So I’m ready to go.”
Mitchell also noted that Kevin Feige is a fan of the original ‘Sky High’ film and could help make the sequel a reality.
