‘The Acolyte’s Leslye Headland and Amandla Stenberg recently responded to fans calling the series ‘the gayest Star Wars yet.’ They even joked that R2-D2 is a lesbian.
The show received some backlash for its diverse cast. However, Headland and Stenberg are having fun with the fans’ comments. In an interview with The Wrap, Headland laughed when asked if the show is the ‘gayest Star Wars yet.’ She responded:
“No, I don’t think so. Yet people have told me it’s the gayest Star Wars and I’m frankly… Into it.”
Stenberg joined in the fun, asking if Headland was offended by the label. They also joked about other Star Wars characters and suggested C-3PO may not be straight, and R2-D2 a lesbian.

‘The Acolyte’ is Set During The High Republic Era
‘The Acolyte’ takes place about 100 years before ‘The Phantom Menace.’ This period shows the Jedi Order at its strongest and the Galaxy at peace. A respected Jedi Master, played by Lee Jung-jae, investigates a crime spree in the show with a dangerous warrior from his past, played by Amandla Stenberg. As they uncover more clues, they realize things are not as they seem.
The series stars Stenberg, Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. It is created by Leslye Headland, who also serves as an executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef.
The first two episodes of ‘The Acolyte’ are now streaming on Disney+.
