‘Lord Of The Rings’ Actor Ian McKellen Hospitalized After Scary Stage Fall

A spokesperson shared the actor’s condition after the accident with the press.

Ian McKellen fell from the stage while performing a fight scene in ‘Player Kings’ at the Noël Coward Theater in London last night. He cried for help after the fall and was rushed to the hospital.

The theater staff quickly evacuated the audience following the incident, and canceled a show planned for that evening, according to BBC.

A spokesperson told the outlet that McKellen was in ‘good spirits’ a few hours later. The doctors reportedly decided he would ‘make a speedy and full recovery’ after a scan.

The actor is expected to be back as John Falstaff for a ‘Player Kings’ matinee on Wednesday. He’s been on stage for the Shakespearean play since April 2024 for a 12-week run.

Sir Ian’s Past And Future Projects

Ian McKellen played various Shakespearean roles like Richard II, Coriolanus, Iago, Richard III, King Lear, and Macbeth before. He injured himself during his run in ‘King Lear’ 2019 as well. The actor hurt his leg while catching a train but still attended the show and held a Q&A session with the audience.

McKellen is now set to appear as Hamlet in a new film by Sean Mathias. He might also return as Gandalf in a new ‘Lord of the Rings’ by Andy Serkis. The actor previously told The Times:

“I haven’t shaved in months. There is no script, there is no offer, there is no plan. [But I might return] if I’m alive.”

McKellen might also reprise the role of Magneto in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ as well as other Marvel projects now that the studio holds the rights to the X-Men.
