After working with the Wachowskis on ‘Bound,’ Gina Gershon was hopeful about joining them again for the 1999 hit ‘The Matrix’ as Trinity. But the role went to Carrie-Anne Moss in the end, and the actress is still thinking about it. She recently told IndieWire:
“It’s hard, because I really wanted to play that part, and I thought I was going to, and then they ended up casting Carrie-Anne. So, I don’t think I could be completely objective. I still see myself in that part. Listen, she did a wonderful job, and I think I understand why they cast her, but I always thought I was going to play Trinity.”
Carrie-Anne Moss’s Trinity
Moss played Trinity in all three of ‘The Matrix’ films. She also did voiceovers in the animated show, ‘The Animatrix,’ and the video game adaptation, ‘Enter the Matrix.’
The actress reprised the role in 2021’s ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ nearly two decades later. She’s recently on ‘The Acolyte’ in a part inspired by Trinity as well as Netflix’s ‘FUBAR’ with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Gershon Is Busy With Other Projects
Gina Gershon is busy with her own projects, as well. She recently starred in Eli Roth’s horror flick ‘Thanksgiving’ and will next be seen as Mad Moxxi in the ‘Borderlands’ film adaptation.
Gershon’s recent acting catalog also includes a role in the CBS series ‘Elsbeth.’ ‘The Good Wife’ spinoff premiered in February and is confirmed for a second season.
New ‘Matrix’ Film On The Way
Meanwhile, another ‘The Matrix’ project is in the works. Drew Goddard will write and direct the new film, according to news from earlier this year.
Lana Wachowski will return as an executive producer, but it’s unclear if Trinity and other original characters will be part of the production.
