‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is still in the casting process, and Jason Momoa is reportedly among the names eyed for the film. Daniel Richtman recently claimed that the DC Studios wants to bring Momoa back in an undisclosed role that ‘sounds a lot like Lobo.’
The team is also looking for actors for other roles including the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills and Kara Zor-El’s ally, Ruthye Marye Knoll, according to previous speculations.
The studio has not confirmed these casting rumors, but production is ongoing. The film’s release is set for June 26, 2026, making it the second DCU theatrical project following James Gunn’s ‘Superman.’
Momoa’s Rumored Involvement In The DCU
Talks about Jason Momoa’s casting in the rebooted DCU following his role as Aquaman have been going around in recent years. The actor himself hinted at the possibility in his previous interviews, although it wasn’t clear who he could play.
Momoa met with DCU executives James Gunn and Peter Safran to discuss his future before the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’ He shared interest in playing Lobo in a 2023 interview about the movie:
“So, Lobo… I used to collect comics and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite. And I’ve always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello?’ It’s pretty perfect. It’s the perfect role. I mean, listen, if they call me and ask me to play it? It’s a f*** yeah. But, I mean, that’s a guarantee. So, you don’t have to worry about that. But, I haven’t received that call. So, I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”
Supergirl’s New Face In The DCU
The DC Studios already announced Milly Alcock as the titular hero. James Gunn said he was planning to step away from Supergirl’s old interpretations in ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ and bring a ‘less earnest and more edgy’ take on her.
The director also shared about Alcock’s casting on Threads:
“In case you missed this exciting news yesterday. Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter for this role well over a year ago when I had only read the comics. I was watching ‘House of the Dragon’ & thought she might have the edge, grace & authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes.”
Craig Gillespie will be directing the ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ script by Ana Nogueira.
