‘Mission: Impossible’ Sequel Wraps Filming After Two Years

Eighth film of the franchise is coming out on May 23, 2025.

Filming for ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ is apparently close to the end, as Benji Dunn actor Simon Pegg recently announced finishing his scenes on Instagram Stories. He said in a video message:

“I just wrapped my last day on ‘Mission: Impossible’ and said a farewell to everybody. And we started shooting the first part of this story in September 2020, and here we are in July 2024. What a journey it has been. And what a fucking incredible spectacle this next film is going to be, I’m so excited for you to see it. But until then, Benji Dunn signing off.”

Pegg joined the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series in the third film. He returned along with Tom Cruise for ‘Dead Reckoning Part One’ in 2020.

The Eighth Installment Faced Some Delays

Although the team originally wanted to film the seventh and eighth films back-to-back four years ago, plans changed after Christopher McQuarrie decided to rewrite the script.

The upcoming sequel’s production started in the UK in 2022, and moved through Malta, South Africa, and Norway. The 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike later caused a delay, but filming resumed in March 2024.

‘Dead Reckoning Part One’ Actors Are Back For The New Film

Tom Cruise returned as Ethan Hunt for ‘Mission: Impossible 8.’ Shae Whigham, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and more re-united with him to reprise their roles in the previous film.

Whigham shared about appearing in the franchise along with Cruise during a chat with The Hollywood Reporter last month:

“I said to Christopher McQuarrie on: [‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’] ‘I don’t want a bigger trailer. I don’t want more money. I don’t want better catering. I just want one scene between Tom and I, where you, McQ, write it like ‘The Usual Suspects,’ and we get a chance to get in there.’ And he delivered.”
