‘Suicide Squad’ Actress Cara Delevingne Admits Getting Drunk At 8 Years Old

Cara Delevingne talks about her journey towards sobriety.

‘Suicide Squad’ actress Cara Delevingne recently joined an interview with The Sunday Times and talked about her past struggles with drinking. She revealed to the reporter that when they met in 2001, she ‘got drunk that day’:

“I was eight, what a crazy age to get drunk.”

The actress also reflected on how she feels about going out all the time:

“I used to think drugs and alcohol helped me cope … but they didn’t, they kept me sad and super depressed. I feel like I’ve got my power back and I’m not being controlled by other things.”

Delevingne now goes to festivals without drinking. She found Glastonbury different sober but just as enjoyable. When she saw paparazzi photos after Burning Man in 2022, she took it as a wake-up call for her decision to get sober.

Delevingne’s Earlier Statement Om Getting Sober

Cara has opened up about her journey to sobriety before. She mentioned in Vogue’s April 2023 cover story that she joined a 12-step program:

“This process obviously has its ups and downs, but I’ve started realizing so much. People want my story to be this after-school special where I just say, ‘Oh look, I was an addict, and now I’m sober and that’s it.’ And it’s not as simple as that. It doesn’t happen overnight. Of course, I want things to be instant — I think this generation especially, we want things to happen quickly — but I’ve had to dig deeper.”

The actress also sent a message to those who are struggling with addiction at this year’s Met Gala, saying:

“You’re not alone. If I can do it, anyone can. But you need to communicate and be honest about it as much as you can — especially with yourself.”

Cara had tried short retreats before but found they weren’t enough to stay sober. She decided that a 12-step program was the best solution. She realized that being part of the community in the program made a big difference.
