DreamWorks Animation recently released a teaser for ‘Shrek 5.’ The video featured an animated ‘5’ with ogre ears trumpeting along to Smash Mouth’s ‘All Star,’ which was also heard in the first film’s opening credits.
The release date that appeared under the number read July 1, 2026. The post also confirmed main actors Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, and Cameron Diaz’s return.

Production Already Kicked Off
Eddie Murphy revealed his involvement in the upcoming project in a June chat with Collider. He said:
“We started doing [‘Shrek 5’] months ago. I did this. I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year; we’ll finish it up.”
The actor also talked about the planned Donkey spinoff film:
“‘Shrek’ is coming out and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well, So, we’re gonna do a ‘Shrek,’ and we’re doing a Donkey [movie].”
New ‘Shrek’ Material Will Keep Coming
Since the Donkey spinoff will start production after ‘Shrek 5,’ it will likely not arrive until 2027. The film will probably have a comedic tone because Murphy commented on the concept last year by saying:
“If [DreamWorks] ever came with another ‘Shrek,’ I’d do it in two seconds. I love Donkey. They did ‘Puss in Boots’ movies. I was like, ‘They should have done a Donkey movie.’ Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots. I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain’t funny as the Donkey.”
Gina Shay will return as producer for ‘Shrek 5’ along with Chris Meledandri. Brad Ableson will join as co-director.
