Isabela Merced Warns Viewers About ‘Alien: Romulus’: ‘It Might Scar You For Life’

According to ‘Alien: Romulus’ star Isabela Merced, certain parts might be too intense for viewers.

In a new issue of Total Film, Isabela Merced reflected on what to expect from the upcoming ‘Alien: Romulus’ movie:

“I really do believe that there are specific sequences in this film that will scar some kids that sneak into the movie for life.”

In an earlier interview, the actress said a graphic scene from the film was too intense for the cast and crew to watch. During reshoots, she noticed her fellow actors turning away while watching the footage on her iPad. However, her reaction was quite different. She said:

“So there’s a scene that I’m in, and they all had to turn away. Not one person stayed looking at that iPad because it was so disgusting. And I was watching it like this … [Merced pretends to hold an iPad with a mesmerized look on her face.] I was so excited [Laughs].”

The Director’s Statements On The Film

Directed by Fede Álvarez, who is known for horror movies like ‘Evil Dead’ and ‘Don’t Breathe,’ ‘Alien: Romulus’ aims to bring back the scary elements of the franchise. It will avoid the deep storylines of recent films like ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Alien: Covenant.’ The director also said the following to Total Film about the movie:

“It is done almost like a nature documentary. While we were seeing it on set we were joking, [like] ‘The creature is coming out slow. It’s looking for the scent of the mother…’ The creature’s not trying to be scary. The creature is trying to get the f*ck out of that cocoon, that happens to be a person. It’s almost like this is more realistic in a way, but without betraying all the beautiful things of the original designs.”

Set between the movies ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens,’ ‘Alien: Romulus’ features characters played by Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, and Merced. They are on a mission to escape their mining colony when a scavenger ship offers them a way out. However, they may encounter some surprises at an abandoned research facility. ‘Alien: Romulus’ will be in theaters on August 16.
