Bet You Won’t Recognize Sebastian Stan In New ‘A Different Man’ Trailer

Sebastian Stan is almost unrecognizable in the new movie ‘A Different Man.’

In the trailer released today, Stan plays Edward, an actor with facial deformities. Edward changes his appearance through a big medical procedure. However, another actor with the same look as Edward’s old face (Adam Pearson) is cast in a play about Edward’s life. This makes Edward obsessed with getting back what he lost.

The movie is written and directed by Aaron Schimberg. It also stars Renate Reinsve, who plays Edward’s neighbor and the playwright Ingrid. ‘A Different Man’ first premiered at Sundance and was later shown at the Berlin International Film Festival. Stan won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance at Berlin.

Stan Has A Personal Connection With His Character

Stan, Pearson, Reinsve, and Schimberg talked about making the film on stage after the Sundance premiere. Schimberg said he got the idea for the movie after working with Pearson. Pearson has neurofibromatosis in the 2018 film ‘Chained for Life.’

Pearson shared that he and Stan found common ground in dealing with public attention:

“This was the hook that we gave to Sebastian: you don’t know what it’s like to have a disfigurement, but you do know what it’s like to not have privacy and to have your life constantly invaded. You become public property.'”

Stan spent 1.5 to 2 hours in the makeup chair each day with prosthetic artist Mike Marino. He noticed that interactions with people were limited and extreme while in character. He says children were the most honest in their reactions.

‘A Different Man’ will be in theaters on September 20. You can watch the trailer below.
