Dafne Keen ‘Really Enjoyed’ Lying About Her ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ Role

The actress drew inspiration from another Marvel actor to keep her involvement in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ a secret.

Dafne Keen sat down for a chat with Entertainment Weekly shortly after the new ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer confirmed her return as Laura Kinney/X-23. The actress recalled keeping the cameo a secret during her ‘The Acolyte’ press tour:

“I had a great time keeping it secret. I had to do a bunch of press for a job that I just finished. I got asked in every interview, and I just got to lie, which was really funny.”

She added:

“All the inspo comes from Andrew Garfield. He is the master at this.”

Keen referred to the lies Andrew Garfield told in his interviews to hide his and Tobey Maguire’s involvement as Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ actor even claimed that leaked set photos of him were photoshopped.

Keen May Get Her Solo Film

Dafne Keen first played X-23 in the 2017 movie ‘Logan’ at the age of 11. Talks said at the time that she would return for her own solo film after Hugh Jackman’s retirement from the X-Men franchise. The actress recalled the early discussions about the project, saying:

“It was very much a reality that then kind of fell through. There were talks of a script being made. I’d heard it was an X-23 [movie]. I dunno how much of what I’m saying is true because I was 11, but this is what I’d heard through the grapevine.”

Things changed after Disney took over 20th Century Fox:

“I was quite sad. I was like, ‘Oh well, I guess that’s it. That’s life, and I’ll have to move on’ — even though this is one of the greatest characters I’ll ever get to play, and annoyingly, I got to play her at 11! I peaked at 11.”

The chances of seeing Keen again in the MCU are high. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is already bringing several original X-Men actors like Aaron Stanford (Pyro) back for the Multiverse Saga.
