Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios gave updates on ‘One Piece’ Season 2 during a recent interview with Deadline. When asked if Jamie Lee Curtis would be part of the cast after long discussions between her and the showrunners, Clements shared:
“She loves the show. She has too many films and TV shows that she’s going into production on so our production dates aren’t going to work. She definitely wanted to do it but she’s got deals in first position, and it just became complicated.”
The Actress Is A Fan Of The Franchise
Filming for ‘One Piece’ Season 2 started in South Africa in June 2024, nearly a year after the show’s debut on Netflix. The live-action adapted Eiichiro Oda’s famous manga and anime.
Curtis revealed being a fan of the animated series at a 2016 San Diego Comic-Con panel and said she wanted to play the crew’s archeologist, Nico Robin. The actress also named Chopper as her favorite character.
She Was Set To Play Doctor Kureha
Chopper would be introduced alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, if she got the role of Doctor Kureha as planned. Social media posts between the actress and showrunners, Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, confirmed last year that both sides were eager to work with each other.
Owens even told Deadline at the time:
“Yes, as of right now, SAG is still striking so there have not been real conversations. But as soon as there can be, I’m ready. I will take her out to dinner, we’ll talk about it. We’ll do all of it because at this point we’re writing for her — we really, really want her to come and play with us in Season 2.”
Curtis couldn’t get the part of Doctor Kureha, but Clements assured viewers that they ‘found an amazing person’ for the character.
