Quentin Tarantino Finds Alec Baldwin Guilty For ‘Rust’ Shooting But Only 10%

The director thinks Baldwin was ‘a partner in the responsibility.’

Quentin Tarantino joined a recent episode of Bill Maher’s ‘Club Random’ podcast to chat about different topics, including the ‘Rust’ shooting that killed a cinematographer.

“No. It’s a situation, I think — I’m being fair enough to say that the armorer, the guy who handles the gun, an armorer is 90% responsible for everything that happens when it comes to that gun,” Tarantino said when Maher shared that he didn’t think Alec Baldwin was at fault.

He added, “But, but, but, but, but, but the actor is 10% responsible. The actor is 10% responsible. It’s a gun. You are a partner in the responsibility to some degree.”

Baldwin accidentally killed Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on the ‘Rust’ set while filming a scene with a gun in 2021. But the court dismissed the involuntary manslaughter charges against him last month due to a Brady violation.

Key evidence involved bullets a retired police officer gave to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, which the prosecution kept a secret from the defense. The case now cannot move forward or be refiled.

On the other hand, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is already in prison for involuntary manslaughter. She received 18 months while first assistant director David Halls got six months probation for negligent use of a deadly weapon.
