Michael Keaton Names The Movie Role He ‘Disappointed’ Tim Burton

The actor reunited with the director in the upcoming ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel years after disappointing him in another project.

Michael Keaton and Tim Burton recently joined a New York Times chat (per Deadline) for their latest collaboration, ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.’ While talking about their previous projects together, Keaton revealed how he ‘disappointed’ Burton with his performance in 2019’s ‘Dumbo.’

“I love working with Tim so much, but I don’t think we ever really analyzed why we work pretty well together; we just do,” the actor said. “I think I let him down on one movie, but that’s just me, and it bugs me to this day. I was clueless on ‘Dumbo.’ I sucked in ‘Dumbo.’”

“I don’t even know what you’re talking about. But whatever,” Burton reacted.

Keaton played the greedy amusement park owner, V.A. Vandevere, in Tim Burton’s live-action ‘Dumbo’ remake. Colin Farrell, Eva Green, and Danny DeVito joined him in the cast, as well.

The movie received mixed reviews and only earned $350 million at the worldwide box office. The director later shared that it would be his last project with Disney.

“My history is that I started out there. I was hired, and fired like several times throughout my career there,” he explained at the 2022 Lumière Festival in Lyon. “The thing about ‘Dumbo,’ is that’s why I think my days with Disney are done, I realized that I was Dumbo, that I was working in this horrible big circus and I needed to escape. That movie is quite autobiographical at a certain level.”

Burton is now back for a sequel to his 1988 film ‘Beetlejuice.’ The film will premiere on September 6 and star Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe.
