‘Tropic Thunder’ May Come Back With A Sequel, Creator Teases

He is waiting to be struck by a new idea for the sequel.

Justin Theroux served as writer and executive producer for the 2008 satirical comedy, ‘Tropic Thunder.’ He recently discussed a possible follow-up to the movie starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. during a chat with ComicBook.

“I have some stuff already churning that I’d love to do, but I’ll keep it a secret,” Theroux teased. “Hollywood just gets funnier as the years go on. It never ceases to amaze me how navel-gazing it can be. There’s a million things… we’ve gone through so many movements in Hollywood that I think those would all be somehow in the mix.”

“Listen, if an idea strikes me, like it struck Tim [Burton], where it’s like, ‘Oh, this could be a sequel,’ I’ll definitely do a sequel,” he added, referring to Burton’s upcoming ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel.

‘Tropic Thunder’ followed a group of actors who were forced to become real soldiers while shooting a war movie in Southeast Asia. Theroux co-wrote the script with Etan Cohen, while Ben Stiller both starred as Tugg Speedman and directed.

The writer/actor focused on other projects, including ‘Iron Man 2’ and ‘Zoolander 2,’ after the 2008 film. He recently returned to the screen as Lydia Deetz’s (Winona Ryder) husband in ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.’

The upcoming comedy horror also brought in Jenna Ortega as the couple’s daughter, Astrid, alongside Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Catherine O’Hara. It is set to hit theaters on September 6.
