‘Agatha All Along’ has already introduced an openly gay character, played by Joe Locke, and revealed a past queer relationship between Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness and Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal in its promos. Hahn discussed these LGBTQ+ themes in a recent chat with Total Film.
“It’s in the bones of the show for sure! I remember there being a ‘WandaVision’ drag brunch and that made us so happy. It’s the greatest tribute we could possibly ever have,” she shared. “So, that was something that was very important to Jac [Schaeffer], Mary [Livanos], and me when we were making this, making sure that element was still involved.”
The ‘WandaVision’ spinoff brought Agatha Harkness back for a quest to regain her powers after being trapped in Westview by the Scarlet Witch.
“The infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth teen helps break her free from a distorted spell,” the Disney+ show’s synopsis read.
“Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…”
The ‘Agatha All Along’ cast includes Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili, Debra Jo Rupp, and Patti LuPone alongside Hahn, Plaza, and Locke.
The ‘WandaVision’ creator Jac Schaeffer directs the first episode. He also produces the show alongside Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, and Mary Livanos.
