Lamorne Morris Sends A Message To Robert Downey Jr. After Beating Him In Emmys

Lamorne Morris paid tribute to Robert Downey Jr. after Emmys.

Lamorne Morris spoke about Robert Downey Jr. after his Emmy win.

“Robert Downey Jr., I’ve got a poster of you in my house!” the actor said after winning for Supporting Actor. “Please sign it, seriously.” As he talked, the camera caught Downey smiling and raising his fist in the crowd.

Morris, who won for his role as Deputy Witt Farr in ‘Fargo,’ beat the two favorites, Downey Jr. (The Sympathizer) and Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers). If Downey had won, he would have been the first actor to win an Oscar, Daytime Emmy, and Primetime Emmy in the same year.

“Oh my gosh! Oh wow! [Thank God] for allowing me to be here. I also want to thank God for my beautiful mother, who raised me,” the actor also noted in his speech. “She’s been my biggest champion ever since I…you know, came out…you know, I dropped out of her butt. I know where babies come from!”

Morris also praised his “beautiful daughter,” Lily, saying, “I love you. I told you I would do it. You’ve always doubted me. I’m here, I’m your leader.”

Back in August, Morris shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he was surprised to get nominated alongside his co-stars. “I was very confident in my performance on the show — confident in everyone’s performance,” he started his words.

The actor added, “To me, it was a tossup. I thought obviously Jon [Hamm and Juno [Temple] [would be nominated], since they were making waves earlier in awards season. That’s why when I say I was in shock, I mean, I was in total, total shock.”

The thriller series ‘Fargo,’ which has five seasons, was also nominated for best limited series. Besides Downey Jr. and Bailey, other nominees in Morris’ category included Tom Goodman-Hill, Lewis Pullman, and Treat Williams.
