Lady Gaga revealed the ‘Harlequin’ album for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ featuring 13 songs.
‘Harlequin’ will come out on September 27. Before the announcement, Gaga teased fans with posts on Instagram. One post said, “I’m ready for my interview.” “Don’t tell me what to wear,” she said in a second post.
“No duct tape. No mission,” a third post added. Only the sound of an acoustic guitar was heard. She also hinted at the album earlier this week with billboards showing the number ‘6.5.’ This likely means she doesn’t think of it as a full Lady Gaga studio album, unlike her upcoming one, which is called ‘LG7.’
‘Harlequin’ will include jazz songs like ‘Oh, When the Saints,’ made famous by Louis Armstrong, and ‘Get Happy,’ by Judy Garland. This is Gaga’s first jazz release since her collaborator Tony Bennett passed away.
They worked together on ‘Cheek to Cheek’ in 2014 and ‘Love for Sale’ in 2021. The album fits well with Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’ sequel, coming out on October 4, which is said to be a jukebox musical.
“You know, my version of Harley is mine and it’s very authentic to this movie and these characters. I’ve never done anything like I’ve done in this movie before, so it’s all going to be completely brand new and really fun,” Gaga previously told Access Hollywood about her role in the upcoming film.
“We never really talked about it like that, but I like to say it’s a film where music is an essential element. To me, that doesn’t veer too far from the first film,” director Todd Phillips also shared. “Arthur [Fleck]’s weird and aloof and all these things, but he has music in him. He has a grace to him. That informed a lot of the dancing in the first film. It didn’t feel like that big of a step here. It’s different, but I think it’ll make sense when you see it.”
Gaga also announced earlier this month that she will release the first single from her upcoming seventh studio album in October.
