Halle Berry Breaks Silence On Shady Tactic Used To Trick Her Into Joining ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ Cast

The actress commented on Matthew Vaughan’s claims about her appearance in the sequel.

Matthew Vaughan shared last week that 20th Century Fox studio presented Halle Berry with a fake script to secure her agreement to star as Storm in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand.’ Berry confirmed his claims in a new Instagram post.

She shared a video of the director’s explanation and wrote, “Ya just never know the shady s— going on behind ya back! Thank you, Matthew Vaughan, for bringing the dark to light.”

Vaughan shared in the clip that he decided to leave the 2006 sequel after discovering the studio’s deceptive approach to casting Berry. He recalled visiting the executive’s office and finding a thicker script heavily focused on Storm.

“I was like, ‘Oh this is a pretty, cool idea. What is this? They said, ‘Oh, it’s the Halle Berry script. Because she hasn’t signed up yet. But this is what she wants it to be and once she signs up we’ll throw it in the bin,’” the director continued. “And I was like, ‘Wow, you’re going to do that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm? I’m out of here.’” So, I quit at that point.

Berry played Storm in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and its sequels until 2014. Brett Ratner replaced Vaughan, who later returned to direct ‘X-Men: First Class’ in 2011.

The film also starred Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, and Anna Paquin.
