Sebastian Stan made a name with his role as the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes in the MCU, but before that, he tried out to join DC Studios in 2011’s ‘Green Lantern.’
The actor reflected on the audition in a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, saying, “‘Green Lantern’ was another one I screen-tested for. I remember getting there and it was, like, me, Justin Timberlake, Jared Leto, Ryan Reynolds, and maybe one other person. I’m looking at these guys going, ‘I’m f*cked. There’s no way this is happening for me.’”
“You come close and it wouldn’t happen, but in a way, looking back I’m almost glad it didn’t,” he added. “I don’t know if I could have handled that level of attention like some of those guys.”
The 2011 film faced heavy criticism, and even Ryan Reynolds spent years trying to recover his career after the project. Meanwhile, Stan made his MCU debut in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger.’
The actor reprised the Winter Soldier role in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ and two of the recent ‘Avengers’ films. He also starred in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ TV show alongside Anthony Mackie and is now set to return in ‘Thunderbolts*.’
Still, asked if he’d consider a role in future DC films, Stan shared, “I don’t know if Batman’s for me. Never say never, I don’t know. There are so many characters. I told you, I always had a soft spot for The Riddler but that one’s been done.”
DC Studios already cast Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart for their upcoming Green Lantern projects while David Corenswet joined the DCU as Superman and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
Now, the studio is focused on casting Batman and Wonder Woman, though there are still a few issues with finding the right person for the latter.
