Prime Video’s ‘God Of War’ Now Has A Major Delay As Creative Team Exits

It could take years before it’s ready to release.

Prime Video’s live-action ‘God of War’ adaptation has been hit with a major delay after several key members of the creative team exited the project.

The show is based on the popular 2018 video game from Santa Monica Studio. It was first announced back in 2022, but Variety reports that it now faces a fresh setback.

Showrunner Rafe Judkins, along with executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, all left the project. These three reportedly finished multiple scripts, but Amazon and Sony Pictures Television decided to take the show in a completely new direction. This means the team will be replaced, and a new showrunner and writers will be brought in to restart the process.

Not everyone has left, though. Cory Barlog, the creative director of Santa Monica Studio, is still onboard as an executive producer. Yumi Yang remains attached to the project, along with Asad Qizilbash from PlayStation Productions and Roy Lee from Vertigo.

The ‘God of War’ show had no release date when it was announced. Now with the recent changes, any previous production timeline is probably wiped out. The show is back to square one, and it could be years before it gets the green light again. Some say we might not see the show until 2028 or later.

This delay likely means that Amazon and Sony weren’t satisfied with the direction the show was heading in. Rafe Judkins also worked on the script for ‘Uncharted’ (2022), and it received mixed reviews.
