Writers Leave Daisy Ridley’s ‘New Jedi Order’ Movie

Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars movie faced another setback.

‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’ movie recently lost another writer. This means the movie could face delays.

‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’ was originally scheduled for a 2026 release. As per insider reports, Screenwriter Steven Knight left the movie. His exit follows that of previous writers Damon Lindelof (‘Watchmen’) and Justin Britt-Gibson (‘Banshee’).

‘A Girl in the River’ director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to the project. She continues to lead the film, and Daisy Ridley is excited about the story that Obaid-Chinoy developed. Ridley mentioned in an interview earlier this year that the story idea was strong, and she’s optimistic about the film’s potential.

Ridley also hinted that filming for the movie could begin later this year, or at the latest, early in 2025. We are now wondering if the movie will stay on track for its planned 2026 release.

Damon Lindelof was working on a version of the film that was set sixty years after ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’ A much older Rey would’ve been rebuilding the Jedi Order in that story. Lindelof eventually decided he wasn’t the right person to write the movie. “I will just say… the degree of difficulty is extremely, extremely, extremely high. If it can’t be great, it shouldn’t exist,” he admitted.

‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’ is still in development for a 2026 release, but with the recent shake-ups, we’re not sure that timeline will hold.
