Josh Brolin might return as Thanos in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
No characters have been confirmed yet, but the movie is expected to feature a new team of heroes (rumored to be based on the ‘Thunderbolts*’), along with some original Avengers.
There are also hints of variant characters and some from 20th Century Fox’s Marvel movies. Robert Downey Jr. is returning, possibly as Doctor Doom, who might even be a Tony Stark variant.
Recently, it’s been reported that Thanos might appear, with Josh Brolin likely returning as the Mad Titan. Also, it’s mentioned that Peter Parker will go to college in ‘Spider-Man 4.’
Thanos’s role in the movie is still unknown, but with so many characters, it’s likely to be small. Some think he might help create Battleworld, possibly alongside or instead of The Beyonder(s).
“You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back. And there’s the ‘What If…?’ series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back, but I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain … You learn something new every day,” Brolin previously said about his MCU return.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on May 1, 2026, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on May 7, 2027. Both films are directed by the Russo brothers, returning to the MCU after directing ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’
“Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves,” The Russos shared in a statement after the SDCC panel.
The main villain of the Infinity Saga, Thanos, hasn’t appeared since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019.
