Just one month after releasing the multiplayer FPS game ‘Starship Troopers: Extermination,’ Sony has introduced a VR game titled ‘Starship Troopers: Continuum.’ Casper Van Dien lent his voice and likeness for the new game, continuing his role from the upcoming single-player component of ‘Extermination.’
The actor is now also ready for a potential live-action appearance in the franchise, according to a recent interview with ComicBook.
When asked about the possibility of a high-budget sequel to ‘Starship Troopers,’ Van Dien told the outlet, “You know, there’s been a resurgence of ‘Starship Troopers,’ even, you know, aside from the other films that we did that were smaller and everything like this, there’s been a huge resurgence. I think it’s due to the video games and, you know, like holdovers to ‘Starship Troopers,’ ‘Extermination,’ and now ‘Continuum.’”
Van Dien first starred as Johnny Rico in the 1997 original directed by Paul Verhoeven alongside Dina Meyer and Denise Richards. He later returned for the series’ third film, ‘Marauder,’ directed by Edward Neumeier, as well as some animated gigs.
There were plans to bring the actor back in a series titled ‘Old Man Rico’ at one point, but the project didn’t move forward. Van Dien still shared hopes to reprise his role for a rebooted production.
His words read, “I’ve been putting it out on my streams…to get Sony’s attention and make the ‘Starship Troopers’ movie or TV series [reboot]. I think it would be great for a series…The visual effects today would be a huge win for Sony if they could make a series out of this.”
‘Starship Troopers: Continuum’ will see release on PlayStation VR2 on November 25, 2024.
