Though ‘Creature Commandos’ hasn’t seen release yet, it received positive reactions from early viewers so far. If the streaming numbers prove well after its debut, the show might get a second season from Max.
Showrunner Dean Lorey himself hopes to continue the story into another season, as well. He recently told Screen Rant, “Yeah, we absolutely want to do a second season. There’s no particular five-season plan or anything like that. But we definitely want to do another season. You will see, at the end of the first season, some of the characters that might be part of that, and there’s a lot of fun to come, I hope.”
James Gunn previously confirmed that ‘Creature Commandos’ would give viewers a glimpse into his and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. Lorey mentioned this in an interview with The Wrap months before the show’s first trailer came out, saying, “That’s going to be the first expression of James Gunn’s DC Universe. We’re considering that canon, and I think it expresses his perspective, tonally, on where he wants the universe to go.”
The early trailer showed Amanda Waller forming a team of monsters for a mission, after being restricted from using human operatives. It also teased appearances from the Wonder Woman villain Circe and the Batman antagonist Clayface.
DC Universe will officially kick off with the ‘Superman’ reboot, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, but ‘Creature Commandos’ will still connect to it. Characters from the animated series will cross over to live-action projects, with Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. showing up in the 2025 film and ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2.
