Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts*’ Heads Back for Reshoots: Major Changes Incoming?

Marvel has planned some reshoots for ‘Thunderbolts*’ in December, according to Hollywood tipster Daniel Richtman, although it was not specified how long the additional filming would take.

Despite the planned ‘Thunderbolts’ reshoots, Richtman claims that Marvel is “pretty happy with the movie”. What’s more, the upcoming film held test screenings for audiences earlier this month and received positive reactions from those in attendance.

‘Thunderbolts’ predecessor, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, has undergone extensive reshoots since the summer after wrapping filming last year. ‘Thunderbolts*’ was shot between February and June of this year in Atlanta, Utah and New York.

Directed by Beef’s Jake Schreier, ‘Thunderbolts*’ promises significant stakes and changes in the MCU as it wraps Phase Five and sets the stage for the upcoming Avengers sequels. In the movie, the eponymous group of anti-heroes and former villains carry out missions for the US Government. While plot details are being kept under wraps, the recently released ‘Thunderbolts*’ trailer seems to have given some clues as to what fans should expect. The biggest mystery surrounds the movie’s asterisk, leading fans to theorize about the group and what it could mean for the MCU.

In a new conversation with Empire, ‘Thunderbolts*’ director Jake Schreier addressed fans’ ‘false’ movie expectations.“I’ve seen a lot of synopses out there that just say, as though it’s a fact, that it’s a team assembled by Valentina to go do bad things,” the filmmaker said. “I understand why that would be the assumption, but that is not the story.”

‘Thunderbolts*’ boasts an all-star cast featuring Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/U.S. Agent), Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost), Olga Kurylenko (Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster), Lewis Pullman (Bob/Sentry) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina “Val” Allegre de Fontaine). Schreier confirmed that the film’s central character would be Yelena.

Along with the confirmed cast members, it’s been rumored that Harrison Ford will reprise his Brave New World role as U.S. President Thaddeus E. Thunderbolt Ross in ‘Thunderbolts*.’ Meanwhile, Wendell Pierce, who stars as Perry White in DC Studios’ Superman reboot, was announced as a part of the movie during post-production.

‘Thunderbolts*’ opens in theaters on May 2, 2025.
