A24’s ‘Civil War’ Uses AI-Generated Scenes To Promote The Movie

None of these scenes appear in the movie.

A24’s way of promoting their latest movie ‘Civil War’ may raise some eyebrows.

A24 created images with artificial intelligence (AI) that show famous U.S. cities in ruins instead of using actual scenes from the movie. These images appear on Instagram and some posters but are not scenes you’ll see in the film.

Some of the pictures have mistakes, like buildings being on the wrong side of the river and a car with three doors. One image even shows a giant swan in place of what should have been a swan-shaped boat.

You can see the posters below.

A24 Defends This Decision

A source recently told The Hollywood Reporter that these AI images are just there to get people thinking about the movie’s big ‘what if’ questions:

“These are AI images inspired by the movie. The entire movie is a big ‘what if’ and so we wanted to continue that thought on social — powerful imagery of iconic landmarks with that dystopian realism.”

There was a big protest last year when actors and writers disagreed with movie studios over using AI to create movie content. They were worried that AI might take over jobs and change how movies are made. Reese Witherspoon thinks we should ‘get used to it,‘ though.

‘Civil War’ is playing in theaters now. It cost about $50 million to make.
