Netflix recently released the trailer for ‘Spaceman,’ an upcoming science-fiction drama starring Adam Sandler.
Directed by Johan Renck, known for the HBO miniseries ‘Chernobyl,’ this film is an adaptation of the 2017 novel ‘Spaceman of Bohemia’ by Czech author Jaroslav Kalfař. The official description of the film is as follows:
“Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Adam Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late.”
The narrative mainly revolves around Jakub. Carey Mulligan stars as Lenka, Jakub’s wife. During his space voyage, Jakub also encounters a mysterious creature — a giant talking spider named Hanuš, voiced by Paul Dano. This unusual companion offers him guidance and support.
What is the Release Date for ‘Spaceman’?
Besides Sandler, Mulligan, and Dano, ‘Spaceman‘s cast includes other names like Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, and Isabella Rossellini. The production saw Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, Michael Parets, Tim Headington, Lia Buman, and Max Silva as producers, with Ben Ormand, Johan Renck, and Barry Bernardi serving as executive producers.
Principal photography for ‘Spaceman’ began on April 19, 2021, in New York City and concluded on July 1, 2021, in the Czech Republic, with scenes shot in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. The original 2023 release was delayed due to the impact of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
Set to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival next month, ‘Spaceman’ will be released in select theaters on February 23 before arriving on Netflix on March 1. The trailer shows Jakub, 189 days into his mission, confronting the challenges of isolation and the strain it puts on his mental state.
