Alan Ritchson Admits Losing The Thor Role To Chris Hemsworth Was His Fault

He learned from this and is trying to improve his acting skills.

In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Alan Ritchson of ‘Reacher’ revealed that not landing the iconic role of Thor in the 2011 Marvel film was due to his own oversight.

Despite his physical resemblance to Thor, Ritchson’s approach to the audition process, he admits, lacked the seriousness the role demanded:

“I didn’t take it seriously. I was like, ‘They’ll throw me the part if I look like the guy; nobody really cares about acting.'”

Ritchson’s Career Had Its Highs and Lows

Ritchson’s acting career began to take shape in 2005 with his portrayal of Aquaman on ‘Smallville,’ which set off a series of highs and lows for him. Despite the initial rumors about his potential to lead an ‘Aquaman’ spin-off, the role eventually went to another actor.

His break came with ‘Blue Mountain State,’ where he played Thad Castle. However, the success did not translate into the opportunities he had hoped for. It was during this time that Ritchson auditioned for ‘Thor,’ a role that ultimately went to Chris Hemsworth.

Haunted by what he described as a misstep, Ritchson decided to refine his acting skills. Despite his efforts, Ritchson quickly realized that recognition in the acting world was not guaranteed, irrespective of one’s commitment to improvement.

Now 41, Ritchson’s career continues with his role in ‘Reacher’ and exciting projects on the horizon, including ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘ and ‘Spring Break ’83.
