Confirmed: Neve Campbell Is Back To ’Scream 7’ Cast Amid Pay Dispute And Melissa Barrera’s Firing

Campbell announced her return as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming ‘Scream 7.’

Neve Campbell’s new Instagram post revealed her comeback, showing a picture of the script and expressing her excitement about reprising her role as Sidney. Her caption read:

“Hi All. I’m so excited to announce this news! Sidney Prescott is coming back! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the ‘Scream’ movies.”

The news is quite the headline, especially since the actress was absent from the sixth installment of the ‘Scream’ series due to a disagreement over pay. Her appearance in the 2022 reboot, which aimed to give the franchise a new start, was her last until now.

The Actress Return Follows Several Cast Changes

Despite not committing to a return earlier this year, Campbell had hinted that she was open to the idea of a comeback if the conditions were right. She shared her continued fondness for the series, saying:

“My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Well, actually I could.”

The ‘Scream’ franchise has seen several changes recently, including in its cast and directorial team. Spyglass Media fired Melissa Barrera due to her controversial social media comments while her co-star Jenna Ortega left because of scheduling conflicts in the following weeks.

There’s A New Director Behind The Camera

Director Christopher Landon also stepped away from the project saying his dream job ‘turned to nightmare.’ Kevin Williamson, who originally wrote the ‘Scream’ movie, has replaced him as the director for ‘Scream 7,’ as Campbell shared:

“While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct ‘Scream 7!’”

Williamson will return to direct the script written by Guy Busick:

“This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing ‘Scream’ fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set Kevin Williamson.”

The Franchise Was Sure To Go On Despite Setbacks

The journey to ‘Scream 7’ has been anything but smooth, with the production facing doubts about its future due to the serial changes in recent months. But Mason Gooding, who played as Chad Meeks-Martin in the last two films, has reassured fans that the project will go ahead as long as there’s audience interest.

He also touched on Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey’s possible comeback in a recent chat with Variety:

“It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. ‘Scream’ doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy it as much as they…If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen.”
