Courtney Cox: ‘There Will Be A ‘Scream 7, But I’m Not In It’

The actress shared her thoughts on the upcoming film and its potential cast.

Courteney Cox mentioned her hopes for the next ‘Scream’ installment’s cast during an interview with Variety at the Rock4EB charity event on Saturday. She also talked about her possible return as Gale Weathers.

Reflecting on David Arquette’s character Dewey’s death in the fifth film, the actress said, “I understand the reasons they did it, but whoa! Talk about a missed character. Dewey is so loved by ‘Scream’ fans. They have to figure [a way to bring him back] out.”

Cox herself is apparently not signed on for ‘Scream 7’ yet. “I’m not officially signed on. I’m not, but there will be a ‘Scream 7,’” she noted.

The ‘Friends’ star entered talks to reprise her role after Neve Campbell’s return as Sidney Prescott made headlines earlier this year. Campbell rejoined the franchise after skipping ‘Scream 6’ due to a pay dispute.

Though Cox showed interest in teaming up with her co-star and creator Kevin Williamson again, there have been no further updates on casting since Campbell’s return was confirmed.

Williamson, who wrote the first ‘Scream’ in 1996, is set to direct ‘Scream 7’ after Christopher Landon’s departure from the project last year. Filming is expected to begin this December in Atlanta, according to reports from July.
