David Duchovny Doesn’t Rule Out Returning To ‘X-Files’ As Agent Fox Mulder

The actor recently hinted at a possible return to the ‘X-Files’ universe.

David Duchovny recently reflected on possibly reprising his role as Agent Fox Mulder in a series revival or in Ryan Coogler’s upcoming reboot. He told The Hollywood Reporter:

“I don’t wake up and wonder, ‘Where is the ‘X-Files’ stock today?’ But I love that show. I don’t know what my character would be like at my age. It’s an interesting question. That show can address the present as well as it addressed the ’90s. It just depends on Chris [Carter] or the other writers. I’m always like, ‘Hey, let’s see.’”

Duchovny led ‘The X-Files’ with Gillian Anderson from 1993 to its finale in 2018.

Gillian Anderson Wants To Return Too

Ryan Coogler announced plans to remake the Fox series in early 2023. Anderson said she was open for a comeback under Coogler’s directorship. Her words in a chat on the ‘TODAY’ show read:

“It’s so funny because, for most of my life, since I finished ‘The X-Files,’ every interview I do, people have asked, and the answer has always been, ‘Nope. Not gonna happen.’ Now, Ryan Coogler, who’s the director of ‘Black Panther,’ a brilliant, brilliant director, has approached Chris Carter to say that he wants to do a take on it. I cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen, I think he’s a bit of a genius.”

She continued:

“There’s a chance it will happen. Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing, but in his hands… But I am not saying no, because I think he’s really cool, and I think if he did it, it will be done incredibly well, and maybe I’ll pop in for a little somethin’ somethin’.”

The Original Showrunner Is ‘Looking Forward’ To The Reboot

As of now, there isn’t much info about the reboot. But Chris Carter is ready to see Coogler’s take on ‘The X-Files.’ He mentioned in an interview with Inverse:

“It’s interesting, people say, ‘Aren’t you possessive of it?’ And I say, ‘No, I’m looking forward to seeing what somebody else does with it.’”

Carter and the ‘Black Panther’ director had a ‘really nice conversation’ about his plans:

“I just asked him what his ideas were, and he told me, and I said, ‘Those sound like good ideas.’ No matter what, he’s got a hard job. Casting is a hard job. Mounting it is a hard job. All the problems that I dealt with are going to be his problems.”

‘The X-Files’ finale aired in March 2018 following its 11-season run.
