James Gunn Reveals Superman Title Change Along With Official Logo For New Man Of Steel

‘Superman: Legacy’ has a new name and logo now.

James Gunn has just dropped some big news for all the Superman fans out there. The upcoming film, previously titled ‘Superman: Legacy,’ will now simply go by the name ‘SUPERMAN.’

The director took to Threads on the character’s birthday and shared a photo of his updated logo, with the caption reading:

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on ‘SUPERMAN’ today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.”

About the name change, he added:

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was ‘SUPERMAN.’ Making our way to you July 2025.”

Filming Has Begun

The reboot, now titled ‘SUPERMAN,’ will mark a fresh beginning for the character within the DC Universe. With a title nodding to the original 1978 film that starred Christopher Reeve, the upcoming project has officially begun shooting.

Gunn announced the news on February 29 by posting the first photo of the cast, which includes David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, among others.

Beginning Of A New Era

Moving from Marvel to DC and being a co-CEO of the studio alongside Peter Safran, the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ director signalled a new phase for the DC Universe, which would start with ‘Chapter One: Gods And Monsters,’ led by ‘SUPERMAN.’

Looking ahead, ‘SUPERMAN’ is just the start for Gunn and Safran’s vision for the Universe. They have plans for more films, including ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Swamp Thing,’ and ‘The Brave And The Bold.’
