Jon Hamm played Cyclone in 2022’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ He is interested in reprising the role in the new sequel Jerry Bruckheimer announced earlier but is yet to get a call.
Hamm recently talked about the third ‘Top Gun’ film and his possible return with Screen Rant by saying:
“I have not had any official talks. I was very happy to hear that they’re gonna make another one. I think the response to the second one was — let’s be honest, the response to both of them has been pretty great, and I was very happy to be a part of the second one. I’m pretty good friends with Jerry Bruckheimer, so I’m sure if there’s plans for Cyclone to come back, I’ll hear about it sooner rather than later.”
He also noted:
“But I know that these things take quite a long time to put together and realize in the way that people like Tom and people like Jerry Bruckheimer are very careful with putting those things together. Joe Kosinski did such an amazing job over the course of four years making that movie that if I hear, it probably won’t be anytime soon. [Chuckles] I don’t think they’re going to be lighting into production anytime soon, but I would certainly love to be back. That’d be great.”
New Sequel Will Take A While To Arrive
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ came 36 years after the 1986 original and faced delays due to COVID pandemic. Bruckheimer said the upcoming film wouldn’t take as long but needed some time for production because of Tom Cruise’s full schedule.
He told ComicBook.com in March:
“It’s hard to tell. You don’t know, you really don’t know. You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with ‘Top Gun’ you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does ‘Top Gun,’ I can’t tell you.”
Crusie is currently filming ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ for a release on May 25, 2025. He is also attached to a new Alejandro González Iñárritu project and is rumored to make ‘Edge of Tomorrow 2.’
Meanwhile, his co-star Jon Hamm is set to appear in ‘Transformers One’ on September 20, 2024.
