Metropolis Gets A New Boss: The Wire’s Wendell Pierce Joins ’Superman’ Cast As Perry White

The Daily Planet has a new boss in town.

Wendell Pierce, famously known for his role in HBO’s ‘The Wire,’ is stepping into the world of superheroes as Perry White in the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie. He joins actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in the latest project by James Gunn, which has recently begun production in Atlanta.

The news was reported by The Hollywood Reporter, stating that Pierce is set to lead the newsroom as the iconic character in the film, previously titled ‘Superman: Legacy.’

Perry White has been a part of the story since he first appeared in a Superman radio serial in 1940. Actors like Jackie Cooper, Frank Langella, and Laurence Fishburne have previously portrayed the character in various Superman films.

The Details Of ‘Superman’

Pierce’s new role came after his most recent appearance in Amazon’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.’ James Gunn confirmed the start of production with a cast photo on February 29.

Marking the first solo project for the DC character since Zack Snyder’s ‘Man Of Steel,’ the DC Studios announced the cast listing Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and other notable actors like Edi Gathegi, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, and María Gabriela de Faría.

With ‘Superman,’ Gunn is leading the way for more DC Universe projects, such as ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Swamp Thing,’ and ‘The Brave And The Bold.’ The upcoming movie is set for a release on July 11, 2025.
