The role of James Bond is up for grabs for the first time in almost 20 years, and there are many rumors about potential actors.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson, has responded to speculation that he might be the next ‘James Bond,’ mentioning that her husband could potentially take on the role.
While Aaron Taylor-Johnson has reportedly been “officially offered” the role following speculation about Cillian Murphy, the ‘Bullet Train’ star is the clear favorite to carry on the character’s legacy.
The 33-year-old actor said in a recent interview that he was “flattered” by the rumors and considered it a “huge compliment,” but added that he aimed to “keep his feet on the ground” and not pay attention to outside noise.
Amid all this, no official statement has been made to confirm these rumors, leaving fans of the series waiting in suspense.
Episode of The Jonathan Ross Show marks the first time Sam Taylor-Johnson and her husband have addressed the speculation. She spoke about her husband potentially taking the role on.
Meanwhile, Daniel Craig offered a brief three-word response about who should replace him as James Bond. “I don’t care,” the actor told Variety when asked who the next Bond should be.
Many famous actors have also expressed their thoughts about the role, James Bond, some even said they would like to play the iconic character. Here’s what they had to say:
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Saoirse Ronan expressed her desire to play a ‘James Bond’ villain. The actress said, “I will stand by really wanting to play a Bond villain, which I will say again and again. Because any time that I’ve gotten a chance to play someone who’s a little bit evil, I just love it. And I think it would be really fun to do that again.”
Sophia Di Martino, who also narrates on Spyscape’s True Spies podcast, told CinemaBlend she’d prefer to take on a spy role instead of being a Bond girl: “I would love to play a spy. I dunno about like a Bond girl, but I would love to play a spy for sure. Little gun, a little sharp suit. Yeah. I love all that. I’ve got quite into it, narrating that podcast. Some of the stories are absolutely fascinating … like Bletchley Park and all that.”
Famke Janssen also wants to see a ‘female Bond’, saying, “Female Bond, come on! I’m available. Time for a female.”
Jack O’Connell speaking to Total Film, O’Connell admitted he would consider the role, but with certain conditions.
“Listen, if something like that comes my way, sure. I’d just treat it the same way: I’d read it, see who’s directing. Do they want me? Cool. Let’s chat. Is the script belting? Then cool. OK, let’s definitely chat. It’s not something I’m going to turn my nose up at. I’m sure there’s a long, long list. I’m sure that list is highly competitive, and I’m sure that there are some phenomenal actors being considered for it. If I’m somewhere along that list – brilliant. That, in itself, is an achievement.”
Despite all the rumors and statements, it is still unclear who will step into the role of James Bond.
