The ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ cast and production team recently spoke with The Direct at Paleyfest 2024. The interviewer asked Paul Sun-Hyung Lee if Uncle Iroh would get more original scenes in the Netflix show’s second season. He replied:
“I wish I could; I have no idea what they have planned for us… I know we’re getting an opportunity to finish telling the story. Obviously, the animated series is going to be the template for us. But other than that, I don’t know how they’re going to remix the stories. Nobody tells me anything. So I’m just gonna show up. And yeah, hopefully, we get a better, clearer sense of where we’re going with that in the future. But right now, I have no idea what’s going to happen.”
The live-action adaptation condensed the original animated series into eight episodes for its first season. But it still added new scenes and plot points like Azula’s early introduction to the series.
They Are Sticking To The Main Series
Meanwhile, Paramount announced an upcoming animated movie about the older ‘Gaang.’ Producer Jabbar Raisani made it clear that the new project will not affect the Netflix show. He explained:
“No, not at this point. We are really looking at the animated series at what came before and less of what they’re currently doing in the new movies.”
Raisani also mentioned his interest in a ‘Legend of Korra’ adaptation in the future:
“Certainly, I’d be interested in anything that is in this universe.”
A New ‘Avatar’ Project Down The Line
The animated ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ film will come out on October 10, 2025. It will be the first installment of a trilogy announced in 2022.
Dante Basco will return as Zuko’s voice, but other original cast members will be replaced by new actors. Eric Nam will make his voice acting debut as Aang with Jessica Batten and Dionne Quan as Katara and Toph.
Dave Bautista will voice the main villain, but further details about his role and the plot remain under wraps.
