Speaking to ComicBook.com, Paul Walter Hauser shared that he was nearly cast in the reboot of ‘The Toxic Avenger,’ standing by as a potential replacement for Peter Dinklage, who stars as the lead in the forthcoming film from Universal Pictures.
During a conversation about his role in Netflix’s ‘Orion and the Dark,’ Hauser revealed that he was among a list of actors considered to replace the lead character in ‘The Toxic Avenger’ if Dinklage were unable to perform:
“I read the screenplay for it. I was like on a list of people if Peter Dinklage gets COVID, I’ll jump [in]. I was one of 20 people or whatever. But the script is amazing. I love Macon [Blair], the writer-director, and the cast.”
Is ‘The Toxic Avenger’ Coming With a Reboot?
Directed and written by Macon Blair, ‘The Toxic Avenger’ reboot has received attention for its star-studded cast, which includes Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Elijah Wood, among others. The film promises a new take on the cult classic, following the story of Winston, a janitor who transforms into a monster with a mission of vengeance and justice after falling into a pit of toxic waste.
The narrative has been updated to weave in contemporary themes, including environmental concerns while maintaining the original’s gritty and over-the-top spirit. Rated R for its strong violence, gore, and language, the reboot aims to stay true to its Troma roots. In 2021, Dinklage also expressed his enthusiasm for taking on a role that is different from his previous work.
Meanwhile, Hauser is set to appear in ‘The Instigators’ and is rumored to make an appearance in ‘The Movie Critic.’ However, ‘Orion and the Dark‘ presents a different side of the actor. The Netflix film, based on Emma Yarlett’s children’s book, explores the fears and adventures of a young boy named Orion.
On the other hand, Dinklage is rumored to appear in ‘The Wild Bunch,’ and is set to star in ‘The Thicket,’ ‘The Dwarf,’ and ‘Brothers.’
