Samuel L. Jackson shared his thoughts on where his characters might be at the moment in a recent chat with Jimmy Fallon on ‘The Tonight Show.’
When Nick Fury came up, the actor revealed, “I used to ask people at Marvel, you know, the powers that be, I said, ‘Why did Nick Fury never show up in Wakanda?’ It’s like Nick Fury knows everything. But he gotta know where Wakanda is and what’s happening there.”
“How can the blackest super spy on Earth not get to go to Wakanda? So, I figured he finally discovered Wakanda. He’s over there chilling,” he added.
Jackson voiced his disappointment about being one of the few black heroes to appear in Wakanda in a previous interview with GQ, as well. He said, “All the Black people in the Marvel Universe were trying to figure out, ‘Why can’t we go to Wakanda?’ Me, Don [Cheadle], Anthony Mackie… but they made it. They got to go fight. I still didn’t get there.”
The actor joined the MCU with a nine-picture deal starting with 2008’s ‘Iron Man.’ The speed at which he completed the contract surprised him, as he believed it would take a while to finish all of the movies.
“How long do you have to stay alive to make nine movies? It’s not the quickest process in the world. I didn’t know they were going to make nine movies in like two and a half years. It’s just kind of crazy! Oh sh*t, I’m using up my contracts. It worked out,” Jackson told GQ.
Nick Fury had minimal screen time in some of his MCU projects like ‘Captain America: Civil War’ but returned for bigger parts in ‘Secret Invasion’ and ‘The Marvels.’ Now, he’s one of the names rumored for a return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
