Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier Is Rumored To Lose Leadership Role In ‘Thunderbolts’

Marvel’s latest project, ‘Thunderbolts,’ is currently in production, and some interesting rumors are starting to pop up about the movie.

A scoop from Daniel Richtman suggests that Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, won’t be the leader of the Thunderbolts. Adding to the surprise, it looks like President ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross won’t be part of the story, despite earlier guesses. Instead, the team’s name is apparently inspired by Yelena Belova’s childhood soccer team.

The movie’s storyline is getting attention too. It’s said to focus on a group of villains and antiheroes sent on a dangerous mission that’s expected to be their last. With such high stakes, it’s hinted that not all characters will survive.

There’s talk that Sebastian Stan’s character might face a grim fate, which could upset some fans. Especially with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on the horizon, which is expected to reboot the MCU, the new phase may mean a goodbye to some fan favorites.

The Actor Is Happy To Be Back

Despite the rumors of a smaller role, Sebastian Stan seems really excited to be part of the superhero franchise again with the Marvel film set for release on May 2, 2025. Last January, at Sundance, he told Variety:

“I’m excited. I’m going to go back basically in a month or so. I’ve missed it. It’s a great cast.”

Stan also commented on the mix of successes and failures in the MCU:

“The batting average is so high that it’s difficult to always land everything right away. It’s always been a great experience. With this one in particular, I think there’s a lot of good things.”

The cast of ‘Thunderbolts’ includes well-known actors like Florence Pugh, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Ola Kurylenko, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Lewis Pullman, with Geraldine Viswanathan joining in a new role.
