‘Superman & Lois’ Showrunners Admit They Actually Planned Seven Seasons

They promise a surprising ending that fans won’t expect.

The showrunners behind ‘Superman & Lois’ originally hoped the series would run for seven seasons.

Showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher envisioned more seasons, but they are still happy with how the show is wrapping up. Helbing and Fletcher recently told Entertainment Weekly that the series is ending earlier than expected, but they were able to finish it the way they wanted.

“We were able to end it exactly how we wanted to end it,” Fletcher explained, adding that fans should expect a surprising conclusion to the story. “I don’t think people are going to think we’re ending the show the way that we are,” he said. “When it ends and the credits come up, they’re going to be surprised.”

‘Superman & Lois’ was renewed for a shorter fourth season in June 2023, and by November of that year, it was announced that Season 4 would be the last. The plans for a longer run were cut short when Nexstar acquired The CW. This led to changes in the network’s programming.

The final season will also include flashbacks. Tyler Hoechlin teased that one particular flashback scene with Dylan Walsh was especially fun to film. He said there are flashbacks and other elements that will give fans more to think about.

The fourth and final season of ‘Superman & Lois’ will premiere with two episodes on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. After the premiere, new episodes will continue airing on Monday nights at the same time.
