‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’ actors, Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez, discussed their scenes in the reimagining of the 2008 original with CBR’s Kevin Polowy. Gutierrez mentioned being scared during a scene with a flaming motorcycle stunt. He explained:
“I didn’t even know what was about to happen, and the motorcycle fully caught flame and blew up right in front of me. I did not know that was going to happen in that scene, and I think we ended up using that take. So, I launched back… rocketed back, and that was not me acting.”
Petsch’s Scenes Gave Her Nightmares
Petsch pointed out how the Scarecrow actor raised the tension on set by showing up in black makeup still on his face from previous days of shooting. Polowy asked whether the filming gave her nightmares, and she admitted:
“Unfortunately. The shower scene was a contribution of mine, because I was like, ‘This is the scariest thing to me in my life that could ever happen to me. Can we please put it in the film?’ And they were like, ‘We love this.’ I thought I would be conquering my fears by doing it. I was like, ‘I’m going to do this, and I’m never going to worry about this again.’”
The actress continued:
“Actually, now, I have an even more visceral image of it in my head when there’s soap in my eyes, and I’m at home and I’m alone. I’m like, ‘He’s right there. I know he’s right there.’”
The First One Of A Horror Film Series
Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland penned the script directed by Renny Harlin. The cast also included Rachel Shenton, Gabriel Basso, Ema Horvath, and Ella Bruccoleri. The horror flick’s synopsis read:
“After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive in ‘The Strangers: Chapter 1,’ the chilling first entry of this upcoming horror feature film series.”
‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’ came out on May 17. ‘Chapter 2’ will follow later in 2024. The release date for ‘Chapter 3’ is yet to be announced.
