Tom Cavanagh Says He’d Love To Return As Reverse-Flash In James Gunn’s DCU

The actor has thrown his hat in the ring, showing interest in reprising his DC role.

Agents of Fandom recently reported Tom Cavanagh’s desire to return as Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse-Flash, in the refreshed DC Universe helmed by James Gunn.

Cavanagh first stepped into Eobard Thawne’s shoes in ‘The Flash’ series debut, quickly establishing himself as one of Barry Allen’s key rivals. Though his character met his end in the first season’s finale, the door was left open for his return thanks to the series’ use of time travel, allowing him to reappear in later episodes.

His most recent outing on The CW’s series was in the finale titled ‘A New World,’ where he played a crucial role in helping Barry Allen come to terms with his parents’ past.

As James Gunn takes the reins of the DC Universe, introducing new faces and potentially revisiting some familiar ones, there’s buzz about the possibility of Eobard Thawne making a comeback.

The Hero May Also Return

Meanwhile, Grant Gustin, famed for his role as The Flash, has also mentioned he’s open to working with the director. Gustin’s comments came during an Instagram chat with fans, where he expressed trust in Gunn’s direction for the franchise and said he’d return as the hero if asked.

The idea of Gustin returning to his role gained further traction when Gunn was questioned about it by fans. In a Thread post, the director wrote:

“Grant is an incredibly talented guy, performing now on Broadway, I believe, and is absolutely not going to waste just because he’s not currently in a DC project. But, of course, I’d love to work with him at some point.”

Currently, there’s no word on any projects featuring The Flash or Reverse-Flash in Gunn’s upcoming plans for the DC Universe. Fans will have to wait and see whether Cavanagh and Gustin will make their way back into the DC fold, either in their original roles or possibly in new ones.
