Marvel has not yet announced a release date for ‘Spider-Man 4,’ but they confirmed that production starts this fall. Tom Holland didn’t give away spoilers when Deadline asked in a recent interview. Instead, he shared his thoughts about reprising the MCU part:
“The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films. I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So, the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more. We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect.”
The Creative Process Is Ongoing
Holland last appeared as Spider-Man in 2021’s ‘No Way Home.’ He explained that the delay for the next film is due to the detailed creative process:
“The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing. This is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early. It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning. It’s just a really fun stage for me. Like I said, everyone wants it to happen, but we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things.”
The Actor Has His Ideas For The New Story
It is not clear where ‘Spider-Man 4’ will fit in the MCU timeline. Rumors suggest the film will take the hero to his ‘friendly neighborhood’ roots after his friends forgot about Peter Parker in ‘No Way Home.’
Holland talked about his vision for the next installment in a 2023 chat with Collider:
“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing.”
The Next Film Will Be Worth The Wait, He Believes
Zendaya will reportedly return to reprise her role as MJ in ‘Spider-Man 4.’ The film will likely also bring Kingpin into the mix as the villain made his MCU debut in ‘Hawkeye’ and ‘Echo.’
Reports suggest that the upcoming project will focus less on Peter Parker and more on his superhero persona in any case. Still, Holland says they’ll try to do the character justice:
“I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”
The actor is currently getting ready to star in West End’s ‘Romeo & Juliet’ in May-August.
